Sure, workouts and training are important, but without good nutrition, recovery and progress will be slower, general energy will be lower, and disease and conditions may occur (in the short or long term).

Without adequate sleep, hunger (and possibly) poor food choices will develop the next day, due to a decrease in the hormone leptin and increased hormone ghrelin. Cortisol may also increase, encouraging the body to hold onto fat. 

Without intelligent supplementation, energy levels may be lower, hormones unbalanced, essential nutrients lowered and longevity possibly compromised.
